GitLab lighttpd (pointing vhost root to?!)

I have a old GitLab installation on my old server, now I installed the newest GitLab on my new server.
I used apache2 on my old server, and pointed the vHost to /home/gitlab/gitlab/public but on the new revision (and or lighttpd) this doesn't work.
Any help?
