Project and servername conflict

Suppose gitlab in installed and configured on a host gitlab.domain.com. Suppose we have a project that for some reason is named .domain.com.
Then this project will be shown as empty in the gitlab. When renamed (only the name, without paths) to something other than .domain.com it will start to work.
