"No preview for this file type" if first line is newline

Most of my javascript files are not previewed and thus not showing a commit diff on my gitlab install (4.1-stable)
During research i found that @rroemhild nailed it in #2628 (closed) with his observation that this is caused by a newline on the first line of the file.
Feeling like this should be a seperate issue clarifying how to reproduce this bug so it can be fixed hopefully soon.
