Redundant merge lines in network graph

The network graph draws extraneous lines that extend all the way to the left even beyond the initial commit.
The green and blue lines don't have any commits on them to the left.
Notice the extra lines compared to the network graph that GitHub renders for the repository:
https://github.com/PaulWagener/Network-Graph-Demonstration2/network
The problem can be reproduced by importing the GitHub repository into GitLab. This problem is also in 4.1
