Transactions are very slow

When I'm creating a user, it takes a long time. And while I'm waiting for the new user gets created and I'm reclicking the create button, I'm getting a 500 error page and I've to wait until the server has finished the first transaction. But the first transaction don't create the user.
So, is this slow by everybody or is it just me? Any ideas?
