Feature request: Opera Speed Dial support

Created by: dfyx

I don't know how many of you use Opera, so I'll quickly explain what Speed Dial is. Whenever you open a new tab in Opera, you get a page with links to some of your favorite pages which makes browsing a lot faster because chances are when you open a new tab you probably want to access one of those pages. In addition to a simple link, Opera displays a preview for each page. By default that's just a screenshot taken from the top left 256x160 pixels of the page but that's completely customizable by the page itself.

Options are:

  • An Icon similar to a favicon and the dashboard Icon used on iOS (set via a tag)
  • A different stylesheet based on a media query
  • Opera sends an extra HTTP Header in the request that allows you to redirect to an entirely different page, for example the mobile version that should easily fit into such a small space

Details can be found at http://dev.opera.com/articles/view/opera-speed-dial-enhancements/

So what I'm proposing is that Gitlab should get some kind of nice and informative preview for Opera Speed Dial (and probably other Browsers that support that feature. I know that there are plugins for Firefox and Chrome that do the same) that goes instead of the default screenshot. Maybe a list of recent actions like new projects, issues and merge requests or maybe just the last thing Gitlab sent you as an e-mail. Because it's in the same browser as everything else the user does, you have access to his session and can display perzonalized content. There's for example a great addon that displays the number of facebook messages, friend requests and notifications on the speed dial.
