Removing yourself or anyone as a participant in GitLab CE from an issue

I have a question regarding email notifications/mentions from issues. Is there anyway to remove someone from an issue once they have been @mentioned into the thread so tey are no longer a participant? I can't find anything on this in any off the issues neither can I find a system setting. Maybe I am missing something and if someone could lead me in the right direction that would be awesome
