Problem signing up with GitHub auth

I tried to sign up on GitLab.com using GitHub auth, but I get error 422: "Sign-in failed because username already exists."

(https://gitlab.com/users/auth/github/omniauth_error?error=username+already+exists)

I checked, and my GitHub username, jsha, doesn't appear to exist on GitLab.com yet.
