Avatars missing after Upgrade from 7.2 to 7.3

Running an update from 7.2 to 7.3 i'm experiencing issues with avatars - they are not migrated and shown as missing please refer to the attached screenshot.
i've been upgrading using the following commands: gitlab-ctl stop unicorn gitlab-ctl stop sidekiq dpkg -i gitlab_7.3.0-omnibus-1_amd64.deb gitlab-ctl reconfigure gitlab-ctl restart
ubuntu 14.40 LTS - all stable updates applied
